Types of soft tissue damage

Soft tissue injuries are damage to muscles, ligaments or tendons. They can occur anywhere in the body and can cause great discomfort and stress to the victim. Examples of soft tissue damage includes:

Bruising, also known as contusion, is bleeding by damaged blood vessels beneath the surface of the skin. It is usually caused by blunt trauma, which is a physical impact that does not penetrate the skin.

These involve the over-extension of a joint, usually with partial rupture of the ligaments. There may also be blood vessel, nerve and tendon damage. An injury with severe ligament damage may require subsequent immobilisation in a plaster cast.

This involves the displacement of bone from a joint. These injuries are often underestimated and can have serious repercussions in the form of damage to nerves and blood vessels.

All of the above can result in severe pain, swelling, tenderness, discomfort and the inability to put weight on the injured area. In severe cases, you could find it difficult to move for a while, and will require time off work.

Common causes of soft tissue damage

Soft tissue damage can be caused by almost any type of accident. However, there are certain causes we have handled claims for more than others, including:

  • Slips, trips and falls
  • Road traffic accidents
  • Falling objects
  • Workplace accidents
  • Accidents on holiday

Regardless of how your injury happened, if it was caused by somebody else’s negligence, you will be entitled to make a claim for compensation.

Who is responsible?

To determine who is liable for an injury, it must be proven that someone else, for example, an employer or owner of the premises where the injury happened, acted negligently. This can include a number of things, including not responding to a hazard within an adequate time, failure to provide personal protective equipment and not carrying out risk assessments.

If those in charge of your safety have failed to keep you from harm, contact YouClaim to make a claim for compensation.

How YouClaim can help
