Work injury claim reduction and the chocolate factory

In 2004, Cadbury's announced a striking 45% drop in accidents at work. As this would reduce stoppages in the company's workflow as well as the number of work injury claims, this would clearly be a financial benefit to the company, which already had an accident rate that was a fraction of the national average.

They achieved this by using the "Deal With It" system invented by the SOG group. This is an interesting health and safety scheme that does not rely on the usual lectures and powerpoint presentations, but brings in board games and role play too.

It also extends the habits of thought to participants' home life, so avoiding more than accidents at work.

The objective, according to the programme designers, is that the process is fun and memorable, and makes the process of avoiding industrial accidents a natural part of the way of being in the factory. A BBC report on the Cadbury announcement stated that "Staff are not embarrassed to ask colleagues to do things differently: 'Don't do it that way' or 'Hey - hold onto the handrail,' might be heard across the factory floor."

Cadbury are not the only company to have reduced accident at work figures this way. Other firms to have used "Deal With It" include ICI, Warburtons, the Duckworth Group and Kerry Bioscience.

Anyone interested in using this system for reducing their company's work accident rate can find the details of the group at the SOG website. Other systems are available.

Making a work injury claim
If you have suffered a work injury that was not your fault, you may well be eligible to claim compensation. If, for example, you have not received sufficient health and safety training for the task you were doing when the industrial accident occurred, this may make your employer liable.

A personal injury solicitor, such as those on the team at YouClaim, can help you to decide whether you have a claim to make, and can help you through the process of making that claim if you decide to proceed.

Every personal injury solicitor that we work with is drawn from a firm governed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, which means you can rely on excellence in the legal skills of your representative. Furthermore, all will work on a no win, no fee basis, and will claim the fee in a won case from your opponent, not you. You would receive 100% compensation that is awarded in a won case.

Our initial advice is also free, and available either online or by phone. Our internet advisors can be reached through e-chat, or through our claim form, after which someone will call you at a time convenient to you. Or simply call 0800 10 757 95 and begin your work injury claim today.
