Whiplash and bad drivers

Despite Britain being known as the "whiplash capital of Europe, it is sometimes easy to forget the cause of the majority of car accidents: bad driving.

Most cases of whiplash occur as a result of rear-end collisions. In such crashes, with the force of the rear vehicle being transferred to the front vehicle, the resultant whip-like motion of the head can cause a hyperflexion neck injury to occur in around ¼ of a second.

These rear-end collisions have various causes; however, the majority occur as a result of either inattentive or aggressive driving, both behaviours that will usually see the driver of the rear vehicle being liable for any consequent compensation claim.

Although bad drivers are more likely to cause a car crash, not all incidents of bad driving end in a road safety incident. But, because bad drivers are a clear hazard to the road-going public, police can be receptive to reports of dangerous or anti-social driving.

For example, Thames Valley Police have a facility for reporting incidents of bad driving in London. It can be found here.

For those in Sussex, make a report with Sussex Police's Operation Crackdown.

If you wish to report an incident of bad driving in another constabulary, try calling your local force.
