Whiplash and myofascial work attack the pain directly

A lot of people know about conventional whiplash treatments but less is known about deep myofascial work. A whiplash injury is essentially damage to the neck muscles and myofascia surrounds the muscle fibres.

Deep myofascial work is a form of therapeutic massage which you can specifically ask for which differs from conventional massage in that it isolates and identifies blocked muscles and works directly on the muscle fibres, through the skin, to release deeply locked tension.

A therapist will literally be able to feel locked pain being released and often, if they have particularly heightened sensitivity in their hands, they will be able to feel the pain being released into their own hands like an electric shock.

Fascia is a flexible fibrous membrane of connective tissue that binds various body parts together and looks like the thin film you see wrapped around the muscle of a chicken leg when you cut into it. When it receives information about a stress like trauma, it tightens.

Myofascia and ground substance
Ground substance, a material in myofascia, can exist in a solid, semisolid or liquid state. When it changes from a liquid to a gel and then back into its solid form, it tightens and it's difficult to get it to go back into a liquid again. When the body is in pain, the myofascia becomes rigid to prevent movement.

This is what happens when you receive a whiplash injury during a car accident. Information is received in the muscle, the neck begins to flip and the muscles tighten in response to minimise damage. What you are left with is a very stiff neck. If the pain is left untreated and the mysofascia continues to harden, you develop a "trigger point".

What is a trigger point then?
A trigger point is an extremely sore point on the body and many localised pains come from trigger points. A trigger point is extremely sensitive, but with careful manipulation, pain can be very efficiently released. Myofascial and "trigger point" therapies are extremely good for whiplash as they work directly and only on specific muscles which have become locked and help them to let go of the stored pain and return to their normal state.

Whiplash compensation
Having a pain in the neck is not funny. If it goes on for some time, the neck muscle can harden and cause significant pain. For an accident that was not your fault, you may be able to make a personal injury compensation claim.

We are specialists in personal injury cases and deal with whiplash complaints all the time. Car accidents happen so regularly in the UK that thousands of people across the country are suffering from whiplash at this very moment. You are one of the people who may have realised they may be entitled to make a claim.
