Scientists in Denmark recently published a paper looking into the link between the post-whiplash earnings of sufferers of whiplash associated disorder (WAD) and the success of their litigation.
Interestingly, around half of all people whose whiplash claims had been unsuccessful succeeded in returning to pre-injury levels of earnings. However, a number of unsuccessful claimants did not, something that may indicate that, in Denmark, courts and insurers are neglecting to compensate some legitimate claims.
In addition, the University of Copenhagen scientists also discovered that the vast majority of successful claimants do not return to their pre-injury earning level. This would certainly seem to indicate that, for these people, WAD is a very real problem, affecting their long-term career prospects and validating their whiplash claims.
The University of Copenhagen also returned a number of other interesting findings. One of these concerned the overall health of claimants. It found that claimants who had sustained a chronic injury were the group far more likely to have received extensive healthcare for other, unrelated, conditions in the year prior to their accident.
