Safe celebs that haven't needed to make claims for whiplash compensation

The pioneers of the revolutionary Saab Active Head Restraint system (SAHR), which acts to reduce risk of injury and potential whiplash compensation claims, are celebrating their 60th anniversary during 2007.

Saab revealed their very first car on 10th June 1947 at the company's headquarters based in Linkoping, Sweden. The grand unveiling occurred in a staff canteen of all places and signalled that the aircraft company was ready-set-go to branch out into the automobile industry.

Did you know that throughout its long and successful history Saab has had some varied and fascinating passengers?

In the early 70s Saab sponsored tennis player Bjorn Borg and skier Ingemar Stenmark using the slogan 'SuperSwedes' to launch the Saab 99 Turbo. Then in 1980 Saab produced a promotional video featuring Borg and rally star Stig Blomqvist doing a job swap. Borg was shown coaching Blomqvist's tennis skills and the rally ace was shown teaching Borg how to maintain maximum control of a high-speed car.

The Sabb 900 Turbo was driven by James Bond in the first novels written by James Gardner between 1981-85, after the death of Bond creator Ian Flemming. A replica of Bond's 'silver-beast' was built by Saab for promotional use and can now be found displayed in the Saab Car Museum.

A range of Hollywood super-stars including Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Richard Gere, Paul Giamatti, Jerry Seinfield and Reese Witherspoon have appeared in Saab Convertibles on the big screen.

Also, one of Britain's most renowned entrepreneurs, Sir Richard Branson, drives a Saab 9-5 BioPower to affirm his commitment to greener motoring.

Today, Saab is a major international brand, praised by road safety buffs the world over for the introduction of the SAHR, which is designed so that the torso makes impact with the seatback during a rear-end collision, sending the head restraint up and forward so that it catches the head before the whiplash motion starts.

It is fair to say that without the introduction of this head restraint system, and others like it, there might have been an increase in whiplash compensation claims.
