Compensation for vibroacoustic disease

Vibroacoustic disease is an industrial illness caused by repeated and prolonged exposure to low frequency noise and "large pressure amplitude". A vibroacoustic disease claim is possible and, for many, a necessity because of its multifarious symptoms, which, when at Stage III can be so serious as to be life-threatening.

Vibroacoustic disease was first noted in workers from the aeronautical industry. It has a whole body pathology, leaving sufferers with a seemingly limitless array of possible symptoms, ranging from mood changes and upper respiratory tract infections, to depression and pericardial thickening and, eventually, with Stage III, onto stroke, epilepsy and myocardial infarction.

One study, by the Occupational Medicine Research Center in Lisbon, Portugal found, after monitoring 236 VAD sufferers for 14 years, that the "primary categories of disabilities" were broken down as follows: "neurological (81, 34%), malignant (28, 11.9%), psychiatric (23, 9.7%), cardiovascular (16, 6.8%), and osteoarticular (14, 5.9%)."

There has been an established link between excessive low frequency noise, large pressure amplitude and VAD since 1958, but in recent years there has been an enlarging body of science looking at the phenomenon in children and other members of the public.

Primarily, this research has examined apparent links between VAD and wind turbines. There is serious concern about the issue and many residents living in the locality of wind turbines have complained of VAD-type symptoms.

In response, organisations, such as the esteemed French National Academy of Medicine, have called for a ban on all wind turbines within 1.5 km of people's homes.

A spokesperson from YouClaim, the no win, no fee specialist, comments, "VAD is a very serious disease and can devastate lives.

"We are used to fielding vibroacoustic disease claims in our office, but it is very worrying to think that, as well as our current workplace injury claimants, we might also have to handle claims from children and families living near wind turbines.

"There is pressing need for clear science on this issue."

Claim compensation for VAD
VAD is a serious illness that may occur when employers do not adequately protect workers. There is undoubtedly a susceptibility to the disease that is shared by some people and not by others – however, this does not preclude the liability of an employer.
