Significantly, Endsleigh's annual Motor Accidents Index looked at not only the number of reported incidents, it also looked at the number of compensation claims across cities and towns in the UK then used a computer program to analyse the data.
Although this meant that for a personal injury solicitor Glasgow may not have been a great source of car crash claim work, it did mean that the many safety campaigns to target the area in recent years were finally paying off.

Glasgow Central MP Mohammad Sarwar said that the survey made him "very proud to hear that Glasgow is ranked as one of the safest places to drive in the UK,"
Ahead of Glasgow in the survey were the UK's three safest places for motoring: Belfast, Bangor and Swansea.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, the three riskiest accident hotspots were Slough, Bradford and Birmingham.
In fact, overall Scotland did very well in the survey with two more of its cities rounding out the top eight Aberdeen and Edinburgh were placed as the fourth and seventh safest cities, respectively.
An Endsleigh spokesperson said that the safety of Scottish roads was a real tribute to motorists who face some of the toughest driving conditions in the UK. "Clearly there are some parts of the UK which are safer than others when it comes to the frequency of accidents on the road.
"It is interesting to see that drivers in Scotland are shown to be some of the safest in the UK, even though weather conditions are often more hazardous at this time of the year," he said.
