They might not have claimed accident compensation in Scotland, but the five finalists of a Scottish compensation claim company's competition had been cited as the most accident prone people in the nation.
The final man in the 2010 competition was a 63-year-old retired postman who said of his clumsy nature, "One of my most memorable accidents involved getting some dirt in my eye. I visited A&E and they gave me an eye patch.
"As I was walking out of the hospital, I managed to fall in an enormous hole that had been dug by workmen. I went straight back to hospital. I'd broken my arm."
One of his competitors was a 26-year-old woman who had had 15 major accidents. Yet, despite the agony of her trips and falls she was inspired by her misfortune to study for a PhD in bone and musculoskeletal research.
Ironically, another of the six finalists worked as an admin manager at a construction company and one of her work tasks was to deliver health and safety training to the employees. However, her own accident record included over 20 serious accidents including a motorcycle crash in which she suffered a dislocated right knee, fractured elbow and ruptured ligaments.
Around one hundred Scots entered the competition after the organisers asked to hear about "Scotland's weird and wacky accidents".
A spokesman said, "Research shows that over 4,000 people go to A&E every day in Scotland, that's over 170 every hour which equates to an accident every 30 seconds.
"Thankfully not all of these accidents are serious, but some of them are just jaw dropping and fascinating. We want to hear from anyone with an interesting tale to tell."
