Preventing an accident during train delays

Trains have come a long way since the invention of steam engines. Constantly improving technology has enhanced the quality of train journeys and has also significantly reduced the chances of a railway accident occurring.

Similarly to road traffic, train drivers have to follow set of driving laws which help to ensure the safety of passengers choosing to travel by train. If a train driver neglects to drive a train properly, they risk causing an accident which could potentially cause passengers to sustain a personal injury.

Signal failures and intruders on the tracks, amongst other incidents, can cause severe delays to train journeys. This can be frustrating to both passengers who are waiting at a railway station and those already on a train which is unable to travel any further.

Although train delays can make passengers late for work, appointments or other arrangements, passengers should remain calm and reasonable and not pose a threat to others aboard, or on a station platform.

If a train is forced to come to a halt mid-journey and individuals on the train are not given a clear idea of how long their journey will be delayed by, passengers should not attempt to leave the train in order to walk to the nearest station.

Railway lines are incredibly dangerous for pedestrians as the tracks are powered by electricity. These electricity lines are very rarely turned off and if a person was to walk on one, the electrocution suffered would most likely be fatal.

Passengers should remain on the train and listen to any travel updates given, unless told otherwise by a member of the rail staff.
