Day in, day out, personal injury lawyers receive notifications from members of the general public who have suffered injury as a result of the negligent actions of others.
However, occasionally, accidents befall celebrities and their misfortune soon makes it into the media.
From 2003 to 2006 a Channel 4 series, produced by Endemol, called The Games graced UK television screens featuring various ‘celebrities' taking part in Olympic-style sporting events, such as diving, swimming, track and field events and gymnastic disciplines.
And for the fourth series, in 2006, the graffiti artist-turned-drum ‘n' bass DJ, Goldie, had been signed up to take part only to suffer a personal injury accident whilst in training for the waterskiing event.
During a practice session for the show Goldie's foot became entangled in the handle attached to a speed boat's tow rope and as he attempted to negotiate a waterski jump he suffered a spiral fracture of his left femur.
In 2009, it was revealed in the press that Goldie intended to sue various bodies involved in the waterskiing stunt for £300,000 of personal injury compensation.
According to newspaper reports, Goldie alleged the accident had been caused by negligence and he cited breach of statutory obligations, breach of contract and breach of equipment regulations as causes for the compensation claim.
