In the UK, hundreds of workers every year make personal injury claims for industrial diseases.
One industrial disease which might often be overlooked, however, since fewer than 600 cases are diagnosed annually and not all of them are work-related, is nasal cancer.
It can develop as a result of inhaling wood dust during employment in a wood-cutting factory, furniture industries, and in many other woodworking careers. It can also be triggered after frequent and lengthy inhalation of some chemicals and dust from chromium and leather.
Symptoms
Nasal or sinus cancer can affect both the nose and the eyes, and occasionally will cause problems elsewhere on the face.
Typically a sufferer will experience stuffiness in a nostril, which cannot be cleared, a reduced sense of smell, nosebleeds and mucus coming from the nose or draining at the back of the throat.
Eye problems can also present themselves in the form of partial or complete loss of sight, a bulging of one eye, blurred vision, pain above or below the socket, and watery eyes.
Less common symptoms can involve a lump growing on the face, nose or roof of the mouth, a loss of sensation or pain in part of the face, wobbly teeth, a difficulty opening the mouth, a feeling of pressure in one of the ears, or the lymph nodes in the neck becoming enlarged.
If you think that you may be suffering from nasal cancer you should see your GP or doctor for a professional diagnosis as soon as possible.
Beginning a personal injury claim
If you have been diagnosed with sinus cancer you could be eligible to make a compensation claim from your employers if your illness can be proven to be work-related.
If you are no longer employed by the firm in which you believe you developed the beginnings of your cancer, or the company you worked for has since ceased to trade, you could still receive a settlement with the help of one of our expert solicitors.
