PEOPIL, European law, and UK personal injury lawyers

PEOPIL is the Pan European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers. It is a not-for-profit organisation established in 1998 to "improve and promote judicial co-operation and mutual knowledge of legal and judicial systems of European jurisdictions in the field of personal injury law."

It lists its objectives as:

  • To develop co-operation and networking of personal injury lawyers within Europe;
  • To promote access to the legal system for consumers suffering personal injury;
  • To promote higher standards of care and safety for consumers;
  • To promote proper and fair compensation for all personal injury cases;
  • To support and encourage the exchange of information and knowledge.

As the impact of EC legislation grows on the law that applies in cases of work accidents, product liability and car crashes, PEOPIL attempts to ensure that the membership (of nearly 500 personal injury solicitors) remains up to date on all cross-border issues.

Since it was created, PEOPIL has received financial support for its various activities from the European Commission, Directorate General Justice and Home Affairs within the framework of the Grotius programme.
