When we go to the gym we do so because we wish to improve our level of overall health and wellbeing – we certainly don't expect that we'll suffer a serious neck injury that leaves us in need of neck injury compensation so that we can move forward with our lives.
In this day and age a lot of gym-goers in the UK have personal trainers to oversee, plan and supervise their exercises and exercise routines.
Yes, a limited amount of discomfort during and after exercise is pretty much par for the course, particularly if it is particularly intensive or vigorous. However, there are times when this pain may be worrying and indicative of damage or potential injury.
As well as being indicative of muscular or spinal damage, neck pain can, in some instances, be a symptom of heart problem and as such, may require immediate attention.
Personal trainers who make clients push themselves beyond their limits, may find that either they or their employers are responsible for any consequent neck injury compensation claim.
In 2007 aStaffordshire sports centre received a £15,000 fine after a man broke his neck as the result of the handlebars of an exercise bike giving way.
The man had been taking a bike class with a trainer when the handlebars of his bike fell from the frame.
As a result of his injuries, the man spent 10 months wearing a rigid neck collar, during which time his life was profoundly affected. Environmental health officers investigating the incident had found that the bike's handlebars had been extended beyond the marked safe maximum height.
"Members of the public could adjust the handlebars and there was no physical way of stopping them adjusting the bars beyond the safe limit. That was compounded by the fact there was no methodical system for checking whether the bikes had been adjusted beyond their safe limit," commented an inspector.
