Making an accident claim online could help you on your way to recovery

YouClaim are one of the leading accident claim online specialists. Accidents, such as a car crash, from which you have sustained injuries, can make it difficult to get about for physical reasons, but understandably can also affect your mood.

Depression after an accident is not uncommon. There are three main types of depression, one of which is brought on by having had a traumatic experience.

Sometimes people refer to this as post-traumatic stress disorder, of which depression is a symptom.

Depression or post-traumatic stress disorder?
It is often difficult to separate the medical titles of some psychological problems and their listed symptoms.

The workings of the mind and how various experiences affect it are still mysterious and are continuously being studied by the medical world. There is often some overlap between closely related illnesses.

Symptoms of both depression, caused by a traumatic experience, and the depressive symptom of post-traumatic stress disorder, are the same, and can be treated in the same way as one another.

The severity of the depression, however, will vary from person to person, and depend on what the victim has experienced.

Even though one of the causes of depression may be an injury, it is still possible, while using physical therapy and painkillers assigned by a doctor, to feel isolated and unsociable due to the psychological depression originating from experiencing the accident.

It is only natural after having an accident to want to stay at home where it feels comfortable and safe, but in some circumstances this need for a safe zone, turns into agoraphobia – a fear of leaving the house.

Agoraphobia
Not wanting to leave the house can turn into not being able to.

Agoraphobia is closely connected to panic disorder and is caused by a panic response to situations viewed by the individual as stressful. This can often be something as common-place as travelling by train, or being in a busy shopping-centre.

The stress the person feels in these situations, causes fear and panic, and ultimately the person will try to avoid the feared situations altogether.

Staying in the house eases the stress, but also lets the person place imagined fear on the situation they feel is stressful.

In this way, fear can become greater because instead of facing it, the accident victim is enforcing their fearful behaviour by staying inside, away from it, where they feel safe.
