UK personal injury solicitors for serious forklift injuries

There is no doubt that UK personal injury solicitors represent a disproportionate number of serious personal injury claims that have forklift accidents as their root cause.

In fact, based on a decade of figures starting from 2001, each year in the UK forklift-related incidents cause more than 2,000 incidents of serious worker personal injury.

At a weekly level, this works out at around 43 forklift-related injuries each week. Furthermore, according to the Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA), many of the injured are likely to be workers who are only just starting out in their careers, with around two of those seriously injured each week just teenagers.

Furthermore, many of those who contact UK personal injury solicitors each week to make forklift claims do so because of catastrophic injury such as amputation – while the fatal accident rate works out at around one every six weeks.

The true scale of the figures is only fully understood when the accident rate is compared against that of vans, cars and HGVs combined: they are roughly equivalent.

The Fork Lift Truck Association believes that such accidents are frequently the result of employer negligence. "All too often, the people responsible for enforcing good practice are poorly equipped for the task," it says.

"It's not unusual for managers and supervisors to have had no formal training in fork lift truck safety, and have too little time to do the research. As a result, these men and women charged with looking our workplaces are often not able to recognise risks when they see them and take action before problems occur," it adds.
