The spillage happened after the boy was passed a cup with a lid that had not been put on properly resulting in the tea spilling as the car he was passenger in went over speed bumps coming out of the drive-thru.
Following the incident, the boy was unable to work, drive or shower easily due to the severity of the burns he suffered and is now permanently scarred from the hot tea.
At the time of the incident his family threatened to seek the services of a personal injury lawyer to make a compensation claim for the scarring that the teenager had received.
Speaking of the incident the boy said, "It's scary that they serve tea at that temperature with lids that aren't put on right.'
The fast food giant involved are said to have reviewed their policies regarding hot drinks since the incident occurred.
