In 2011 a man from a 55-year-old man from Bristol secured a five-figure work injury claim for the foot and toe injury he suffered while working as a facilities manager at an equestrian centre.

Had these things not been neglected then it is likely that when the man dropped some wooden pallets on his toe, he would not have suffered serious injury – injury so serious, in fact, that it led to a virulent infection and eventual amputation of the toe.
The 54-year-old explained why he found it necessary to make a work injury claim. "I was in extreme pain and have, in effect,had to learn to walk again," he said.
"When you lose your toe, you lose your balance. I walk with a stick now and can't walk that far. The money has been a great help to me," he added.
The case just goes to show that if employers don't take correct health and safety precautions even the most innocuous-seeming of jobs can be more dangerous that the most risky-seeming.
