Claiming compensation for monorail accident injuries

Here in the UK, the monorail has never been a public transport of choice. In fact, like most countries, with the exceptions being nations like Germany and the United States, the UK does not have any public transport monorail system. Perhaps this is a wise decision, given the fatal monorail accident record, such as the one that occurred in north-west Germany in 2006.

Twenty-three people were killed in a maglev monorail incident, with a further 10 suffering serious injury. The monorail accident was attributed to "driver error" and resulted in national outcry and mourning in Germany, with many expressing grave concerns about the future operating safety of the monorail.

However, despite the absence of public monorail systems, there are a number of so-called amusement monorails in the UK.

These amusement monorails, which are usually for scenic, novelty or short distance ferrying purposes at private amusement parks and attractions are found at a number of places. These are: Alton Towers, Chester Zoo, the National Motor Museum, Blackpool Pleasure Beach and the Flamingoland theme parks.

Overall, the safety records of these UK monorails is very good, and there has never been a fatal accident.

However, this does not mean that safety managers can rest on their laurels. This need to avoid complacency is well-demonstrated by a 2009 Disneyworld monorail crash. Up until that point, the operators had enjoyed a near-perfect safety record. This meant little when five people suffered personal injury and one died as a result of a collision between two monorail trains.

A number of affected people are thought to have launched no win, no fee compensation claims over the incident.
