There is a very low probability of dying in an aviation accident – the chances are around 11 million to one – however, there is a significantly higher risk of personal injury, as 95% of all people involved in an aviation crash actually survive to go on and make plane accident compensation claims.
Per flight, the risk of a fatal aviation accident stands at around one per every 1.5 million take offs.
Over the first decade of the 21st century, there was an average of 135 commercial flight accidents a year, of which, on average, 28 prove fatal.
However, what these figures do not account for are the small and minor incidents, which, although unreported on a large scale, may result in passengers receiving plane accident compensation for injuries such as whiplash.
Again, it is worth remembering that although there are always going to be risks inherent in travelling through the air at 33,000 feet, the risks of dying in a road traffic accident are much higher, around 5,000 to one.
A spokesperson from no win, no fee solicitor firm YouClaim, comments, "Fortunately, air travel is actually relatively safe and is unlikely to result in passengers suffering serious personal injury.
"Despite this, there are risks and they are ones that airlines must legislate against. As such, if they do not follow correct health and safety practice, affected passengers will be considered to have compensable injuries."
Claim plane accident compensation
According to the protocols of the Montreal and Warsaw Conventions, airlines must accept strict liability for air travel incidents that result in passengers sustaining serious injury.
Whether you have suffered injury in mid-air, while landing or taking off, or while embarking or disembarking, you may be entitled to claim plane accident compensation.
Under the terms of the Montreal Convention, claims are capped at £100,000. For a claim to exceed this sum, it is likely that a case will have to go to court and negligence be proven.
