Avoid falling victim to an in-flight plane accident
26/10/2011

Hundreds of planes take flight on a daily basis with passengers using them for holidays, business trips and even to move homes. If an aeroplane journey does not go to plan and a passenger sustains a personal injury, they may seek plane accident compensation.

Many passengers dread and fear flight turbulence occurring, and although in the vast majority of cases it is a harmless part of flying, a very small amount of passengers may fall victim to an accident involving turbulence.

Turbulence is air movement which usually cannot be seen and may cause a plane to jolt and move suddenly. Turbulence cannot always be foreseen and can happen in any number of conditions, including jet streams, mountain waves, atmospheric pressures and thunderstorms.

When an aeroplane encounters turbulence, it is the aircrew's job to look after the passengers and to activate the seatbelt sign to ensure that everyone remains safely in their seats. If a passenger fails to obey warning signs, they could sustain an injury.

If staff members do not inform passengers of the impending dangers, passengers may continue to leave their seats to use toilet facilities or stretch their legs, unaware of the risks they face.

Although incidents of turbulence accidents are incredibly rare, they do occasionally happen and passengers may seek a passenger claim to compensate for any injuries that occurred on a plane journey.

To reduce the chances of becoming involved in a turbulence-related plane accident, passengers should always pay attention to the seatbelt sign, keep seatbelts fastened when seated and listen carefully to any instructions given by cabin crew.
