Parents have been urged to set the right example and help their children avoid a skiing accident head injury by wearing safety helmets.
Although the wearing of a helmet remains a matter of choice at most resorts, both here in Europe and as far afield as Canada, the US and Australia, many are now doing more to encourage use of the safety headgear.
For example, although nearly all resorts allow adults to decide for themselves whether they wish to wear helmets, a large number have made it compulsory for children and youth skiers to wear helmets while participating in resort-organised group activities.
This is an approach that has been adopted by the world-famous Canadian resort Whistler Blackcomb. Whistler's president recently commented, "I think it's the right direction for us to go at Whistler Blackcomb and in the ski industry," he said.
Adding, "I think that ski helmets do provide additional safety in certain circumstances. Helmets definitely add to safety and they lower risk but they don't protect in all high-risk situations."
However, with most ski slope customers being repeat visitors, much still needs to be done to address an endemic cultural indifference to helmets. Experts say that the "culture needs to change".
The issue of helmets has gained a great deal of attention since the skiing accident death of actress Natasha Richardson.
Only recently former Olympic skier Dave Irwin, who suffered a traumatic skiing-related brain injury in 2001, called for parents to do everything possible to encourage their children to wear helmets.
100 percent compensation claims for skiing injuries
Skiing holiday-related injuries are very common and can range from relatively minor wrist injuries to serious neck, brain and spinal injuries.
There are many types of skiing accident a claimant can receive compensation for. For example, if an instructor has given a person inadequate advice, where equipment has been faulty or where another skier or a resort have broken Ski Federation rules.
Although the majority of such accidents happen outside UK borders, it will usually be possible, where the negligence of another party can be proven, for one of our no win, no fee solicitors to mount a successful claim for 100 percent compensation.
Here at YouClaim we are able to this without clients ever incurring a single penny in costs, fees or disbursements. In addition, we never take a cut, ensuring that all clients receive every penny awarded them.
