Journalists in Reading have been analysing the workplace accident figures released by the Health and Safety Executive last week, as they reveal that more than 400 local people have received a personal injury in their line of work in the past seven years, one of which proved fatal.
In addition to the 433 serious injuries recorded, almost 2,000 people were listed as having received an injury that led to them require three or more days off work. The data included various types of industrial accident and injury at work, but suggest that the service sector, surprisingly, has a greater risk of causing a fatal injury than other sectors.
A spokesperson from a Midlands health and safety firm said, "Recent changes to manslaughter laws makes it easier for a prosecution to be brought against business owners and managers who don't protect their employees adequately.
"It's too dangerous for any business not to train staff in health and safety."
The HSE reports do not detail how many of the workplace accident cases led to those who suffered a personal injury making successful no win no fee compensation claims.
