Work accident compensation for ramp fall

An Essex man who suffered three crushed vertebrae in his back is to receive £250,000 in work accident compensation after a fall in his workplace means he will be unlikely to work ever again.

The 50-year-old father of two was loading a lorry via a ramp in November 2008 when he fell off it causing the crush injuries to his spine.

Unfortunately, the severe injury could not be safely operated upon due to its close proximity to his spinal chord.

The worker's employers attempted to offer him different work within the company, but his injuries mean this has been impossible.

The man is now dependant on his wife for many routine tasks, is incapable of lifting, and has memory impairment.

Speaking about his personal injuries caused by the work accident, he said, "It has changed my life. Although I am still here, there are a lot of things I can't do now that I could do before."

On accepting the out-of-court settlement for work accident compensation he commented, "This sum is all I have to live on now because it's highly unlikely I will work again."

Can I claim?
