Egypt bus crash kills 55, injures 10

A bus crash has been reported in Egypt, south of Cairo, killing at least 55 people and causing personal injury to ten more as the vehicle toppled into a canal.

The AFP news agency was not able to give specific figures on the number of people hurt in the road traffic accident or a definite cause to the crash; some witnesses said that the bus had swerved to avoid an oncoming truck, while others reported that the overloaded passenger vehicle had been overtaking dangerously when the accident occurred.

20 ambulances were sent to deal with injured passengers. Reports do not state if any of the passengers who suffered personal injury in the bus crash are UK holidaymakers.
