BPA product liability claim belittled by UK science group
Health Canada has called the chemical bisphenol A dangerous, hinting that it may ban it for use in baby bottles, even before any product liability claims have been decided regarding this.
Animal studies in the USA have suggested that there is slight evidence to show that the chemical may lead to pre-cancerous changes in test animals, and behavioural changes potentially connected to changes in the brain.
A class action has been started in Los Angeles regarding this chemical, which alleges that potentially damaging levels of BPA leach into the liquid contained in a baby-bottle when heated.
However, the UK organisation Sense About Science has dismissed the risk of personal injury from the chemical as a misunderstanding of the science. The slight risk that recent reports have brought up is, they argue, smaller than previously assumed. This will not please the personal injury lawyers handling the LA product liability claim.
