Family of a North London man who was exposed to asbestos throughout the course of two separate jobs in the 1960s, 70s and 80s have received £140,000 compensation after making a successful mesothelioma claim.
Among those will benefit from the mesothelioma claim are the late foreman's widow, four children and four grandchildren.
The deceased man was 79 years old when he died, but had felt himself increasingly debilitated during his final years. His daughter commented, "My dad was a really fit and healthy man and he was passionate about DIY and gardening."But during the last seven or eight years he started to lose all his energy and ability to do any physical work. He didn't know what was wrong with him. "It was sad to see the way he suffered and the psychological effect his illness had on him."
The relevant union, who with assistance from a firm of personal injury solicitors, helped make the mesothelioma claim, spoke of the reasons behind the asbestos lung cancer compensation award, saying that the deceased man "was exposed to asbestos when doing a hard day's work".
The union added, "The employers put his health and safety in jeopardy by exposing him to asbestos at a time when they knew or ought to have known about the dangers."
