Scottish family make school accident claim

A man has now confirmed that he will be making a compensation claim with a personal injury solicitor after his daughter was injured at school.

This educational version of an industrial accident involved a lathe at her school, which caught the girl's scarf during a lesson, pulling her in and causing a neck injury that required 40 stitches. Teachers were eventually able to release her, but she required hospitalisation.

The incident triggered a health and safety investigation in the Scottish Borders area. New safety equipment was ordered to prevent repeat accidents. However, a civil action is to be brought at Selkirk Sheriff Court on the girl's behalf.

Neither the Scottish Borders Council nor the family's personal injury solicitor made a further statement.
