A personal injury lawyer has helped secure a work accident payout for a Thames Valley police worker who was nearly killed by a Police officer during a firearms demonstration.
The police officer had been delivering a gunfire seminar to civilians when he loaded a gun and fired it a point blank range at an attendee, shooting him in the stomach.
The injured man recalled, "In May 2007, during a training class for 999 call operators, the firearms training officer took a revolver, loaded it and fired it, almost killing me, causing major injuries and certainly putting an end to my career.
"I am pleased that Thames Valley Police have acknowledged that mistakes were made."
And he said of the payout secured for him by his personal injury lawyer, "I have been awarded compensation that will help me to deal with the injuries I have suffered and pay for any future treatment that I may need."
Following the incident, the police worker was rushed to hospital where he underwent a series of lifesaving operations and spent 22 days receiving expert medical care.
It is understood that the man has received a six-figure injury compensation payout. His personal injury lawyer commented, "This was an appalling accident. My client was shot at point blank range whilst attending what should have been a routine demonstration.
"Whilst money in itself cannot compensate for what my client has gone through, I would hope that it will help with the financial burden, given his inability to work."
