Charity to receive money from personal injury claim company runners
A personal injury claim company from South Shields in the North East has been supporting the Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund by sending eight of its staff on the Lung Run to raise cash for the charity.
The run, which took place this Saturday in Newcastle, saw hundreds of people take part in three divisions - 2km, 5km and 10km - and the funds raised by the personal injury solicitor firm for the Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund will be going to help fund studies into cures and treatments for the lethal asbestos-related lung cancer.
The widow of the mesothelioma sufferer for whom the fund is named said, "It is fantastic to see so much support for this event. It has really caught people's imaginations.
"This is a great event for those who are just starting their Great North Run training and for anyone wanting to keep fit.
"The Lung Run is a great family day out and is a real incentive to set yourself a challenge for a good cause."
The firm of personal injury solicitors is also a funder of a fashion show, whose profits will also be going to support the asbestos cancer organisation.
The North East of the UK is a region where the services of a personal injury claim company are, sadly, frequently required, because of the damage caused by industrial diseases related to the fibrous mineral - from mesothelioma and emphysema to asbestosis and asbestos-related lung cancer - which was used in the Tyne docks.
