Inquest into death of Accident Group's boss delayed

A coroner has adjourned an inquest into the death of Mark Langford, who gained notoriety as the head of no win, no fee compensation company the Accident Group, because of difficulties in contacting the man's widow.

The deputy coroner commented, "Because she is living in Spain and therefore outside my jurisdiction, I cannot compel her to come. But I am not satisfied that we have sufficient evidence Mrs Langford would not want to be here."

It is understood that Mrs Langford has now been contacted. She must now decide whether she wishes to attend in person or have written statements read in her absence.

The former no win, no fee compensation company boss died last year from head injuries sustained in a car accident in Marbella, Spain, having moved there following his company's collapse in May 2003, owing around £100 million.

Although infamous for sacking 2,500 staff by text message in 2003, Langford then claimed that he had been dismayed by the manner in which the company's administrators, over whom he had no control, had issued these redundancy notices.
