Mouse model may lead to therapeutic treatments

Scientists have created a model for mesothelioma in mice, which could lead to further understanding of the asbestos-related cancer and potentially therapeutic benefits.

Published in the magazine Cancer Cell, this breakthrough could be incredibly good news for future sufferers of malignant mesothelioma (MM). The study leader says that "There is an urgent need for experimental models of MM that can be used to not only study the onset and progression of the disease, but also to serve as a model to select new combination therapies and targeted agents."

The team was able to trace genetic lesions and cell mutations in mice without surgery through the use of bioluminescence.

UK sufferers and personal injury solicitors are certain to follow further developments of this mesothelioma breakthrough.
