A 24-year-old construction worker has suffered serious injuries in a work accident.
The self-employed man from Norfolk had been working as a steel erector at a farm in Bedfordshire when the incident occurred.
He was constructing new poultry units when the overhead power cable came into contact with the scissor lift he was using, causing an 11,000 volt shock.
The accident, which took place in January 2009, left the man with serious burn injuries to his hands and abdomen.
An HSE investigation discovered that the steel structure the man had been working on was less than five metres away from the overhead power cable.
The owners of the farm and company director were both fined as well as the main contractor and sub-contractor working on the project.
It was not reported whether the victim will be pursuing a work accident compensation claim through the civil courts.
