IOSH praises 'Health of the Working Age Population'
The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) has praised Dame Carol Black's report, "Health of the working age population", as a document that should help prevent industrial disease and ill-health.
The president of the organisation said that "IOSH has long advocated the principle that 'prevention is better than cure'. We repeatedly called for improved national access to occupational health services and for increased recognition of the role of trained health and safety practitioners, working as part of multidisciplinary teams, in supporting those wishing to return to work."
He also drew attention to the figure of 2.2 million people who claim to be suffering from a work-related illness, and hoped that the nation's workplaces would soon see the benefit.
Industrial disease is only one of the topics covered in Dame Carol Black's report, which has been heavily reported on in the news for its idea of 'fit notes' to replace 'sick notes' for those suffering from a work injury as well as illnesses.
