Claim for "appalling hygiene"

A married couple from Liverpool have said that they will look to secure holiday illness compensation after suffering a bout of severe food poisoning while on a visit to Turkey.

The couple, who went on holiday to a resort in a coastal region of the country, say that their "dream holiday" was "shattered" by "appalling hygiene", which caused them to both become ill with gastroenteritis after eating in their hotel's restaurant.

To make matter worse, the couple were celebrating 40 years of marriage. "This was meant to be the holiday of a lifetime, but it was a complete write-off," they said.

"We couldn't believe it when we saw the state of the food preparation area. We wouldn't feed our dogs from the hotel's kitchen," they added.

As a result of the alleged food hygiene breaches, the couple have now instructed a personal injury lawyer to claim holiday illness compensation for their bouts of food poisoning.

The lawyer said that although food poisoning compensation would not give the couple another chance to have their ruby wedding anniversary holiday again, it would help recognise the pain, illness and distress of their ordeal.
