Campers seek compensation for norovirus outbreak

Holidaymakers visiting a well-known leisure resort in Bognor Regis have launched holiday illness claims for compensation after catching a highly contagious stomach bug whilst on the site.

Approximately 200 customers staying at the holiday camp contracted the norovirus bug, with many of them developing gastroenteritis, an illness which causes nausea and diarrhoea.

One of the victims was a 43-year-old woman from Cheshire who fell ill three days into a week-long break with her family. She claimed that her stomach cramps were so severe she had to fall out of bed and crawl to the bathroom as she could not physically walk.

The holiday camp has offered a full refund to those who were struck down by the illness and alternative accommodation to guests who decided to return.

A spokesperson for the camp explained that cleaning and sanitising procedures had been increased in order to stop the virus from spreading.

The local District Council's Environmental Health team has launched a full investigation into the incident but explained that the norovirus bug is easily spread especially amongst large groups of people when in close proximity.

It has been reported that many of the guests who were affected are seeking legal advice from personal injury solicitors in order to launch holiday illness claims for compensation.
