Solicitor represents gran then serves warning

A grandmother-of-four who suffered permanent scarring as the result of a holiday accident in Singapore has been awarded a sum of personal injury compensation, to be paid out by her tour operator.

The holiday accident happened in transit, as the 81-year-old was being taken from her hotel in Singapore to a connecting flight to New Zealand, and came about because of the tour operator's failure to ensure the safety of the minibus she was travelling in.

The woman's leg became caught on an exposed metal rod of the bus seat, causing skin to tear and leaving a large wound which needed constant redressing through her and her husband's holiday.

The husband, who, was with his wife at the time of her sustaining her holiday injury, still feels angry at the negligence that injured his wife. He said, "I had been looking forward to visiting my son in New Zealand for such a long time and the injury I sustained prevented me from enjoying my trip as much as I should have done. "I remain angry that the minibus was not properly checked for hazards."

The holiday accident compensation solicitor who represented the claimant helped her win £4,000 from her personal injury claim. Her professional perspective on the March 2005 accident was to comment that his client "put her trust in the tour operator who provided the service. She added, "However, they failed to ensure that the minibus which they hired for this purpose was safe for use and would not cause injury. "This was a particularly nasty injury which has left [my client] scarred for life. "This successful legal action should serve as a warning to other tour operators.
