Angry passengers demand recompense

Several holidaymakers who had their hopes of a fortnight-long opportunity to rest and relax aboard a cruise ship dashed by bad weather and a collision with another ship are demanding holiday accident compensation for their ordeal.

The cruise ship, which set off from Southampton, was scheduled to make stops at ports in Spain, the Canary Islands and Morocco ended up docked in France for three days nursing a large hole in its side.

One passenger on the voyage, who has since said he make seek holiday accident compensation, described the cruise in colourful terms, coining it "the holiday from hell". The man, a 56-year-old builder who paid nearly £1,500 for his ticket, pulled no punches in his assessment of the trip, "It was awful. We had nothing to do. They didn't put on any extra entertainment. The rain just kept coming down. The ship should never have left England in that weather. We had been riding on 20-30 foot waves. It was pretty scary."It was then that the boat hit our ship and made a massive hole just above the water line."But we only found out about the hole when the captain told people what happened. He said that they had made temporary repairs to the hole. It was only when we got to the Canary Islands that we saw the size of it."They then made permanent repairs to the hole. It is terrifying to think that we were on those high waves with this hole having only had temporary repairs."

Although there are no confirmed reports of anyone having contacted no win, no fee solicitors in order to claim holiday accident compensation, it is clear that many of the disgruntled passengers feel that the cruise operator have a moral obligation to compensate them.

The builder, who has become something of figurehead for the feelings of his fellow passengers, told a newspaper, "This was a real holiday from hell, and we have asked for compensation or at least an apology. We have received neither, and the company has refused to give us any recompense. We did not receive the holiday we were promised. It's ridiculous."
