Forklift accident compensation news

Marathon man makes mark after accident
A 51-year-old Scottish man who nearly lost a leg after suffering crush injuries in a forklift accident is proving an inspiration by committing himself to running the next London marathon.
The forklift accident occurred when the warehouse manager became crushed between forklifts while at work in 2005. As if his injuries weren't bad enough, the 51-year-old then suffered a burst artery during surgery, causing him to lose an astonishing 15 pints of blood.
At the time, doctors told him that it was only his considerable fitness levels that enabled him to survive with both legs intact. He now runs 45 miles a week as part of his training regime, and he recently finished the Edinburgh marathon in an impressive time of three hours and sixteen minutes.
Following the accident, the runner was housebound for a month and eventually received £50,000 in forklift accident compensation with the help of his personal injury solicitor. He told Scottish newspaper The Daily Record about his ordeal, "It annoyed me that the doctors were so adamant I would never run again. I was depressed enough without hearing that.
"But I couldn't sit still. I would be out on my crutches trying to see how quickly I could get down the street and back. Then I gradually managed to walk on one crutch, before being able to walk very unsteadily without and slowly built it back up from there."
"That night I was half an hour from dying. I lost 15 pints of blood in four hours - more than there is in the body. It was like a tap.
"When I woke up in the high dependency unit, the doctor said if I hadn't been a marathon runner - if I had been a smoker or a drinker or overweight - I would have had a problem."
