Fan wins accident claim

Sunderland Football Club has been forced to payout the no win, no fee injury claim of a fan who suffered a serious knock as a result of one of the club's misfiring strikers.

The accident compensation claim was made by a fan who, when attending a training session at the club, was hit by a stray shot made by French international striker Djibril Cisse.

Club chairman Niall Quinn explained, "A fan was hit in the face and the club was sued and ended up with a settlement – that wasn't good."

"We had a supporter who got a bad injury. I think it was one of Djibril Cisse's misses where he had a shot from 20 yards. It knocked a supporter out. It was quite serious."

Now fearful of being forced to pay accident compensation for similar incidents, the club said it has decided to close training sessions to members of the public.

"We had several problems with open training sessions. As soon as something happened, everyone was Twittering and the world knew about it," said Quinn.

Quinn also confirmed that the no win, no fee injury claim had been settled for an undisclosed sum of accident compensation.
