An 11-year-old girl from Merseyside has received a record payout of Erbs palsy compensation for obstetric mistakes which led to her suffering nerve damage to her arms at birth.
During negotiations with medical negligence lawyers, Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust admitted liability for the Erbs palsy compensation claim, clearing the way for a six-figure settlement.
In addition, the trust also apologised for mistakes that led to the girl suffering injuries during the 12-hour labour that led to her birth.
The claimant's mother commented, "Although we are so pleased to have received the money we needed to secure ... future needs, the apology from the trust means so much more. It's as if a weight has been lifted.
"I only hope that over the last decade lessons have been learnt from what happened to me and my daughter."
Despite the injury sustained by the girl, which has led to significant disability in her right arm, it is reported that she is a strong swimmer and hopes to compete in the 2016 Paralympics.
The six-figure Erbs palsy compensation settlement will be held in a trust fund to provide for the 11-year-old's future care.
