Fall from height leads to £7k fine
A Luton company has been fined over a serious construction accident that left two employees with seriously personal injury.
The £7500 fine was incurred when the two men received their work injury after a fall from height through a fragile concrete roof. The accident was described as 'totally avoidable', and at least one of the victims may be confined to a wheelchair for life.
The company pleaded guilty to offences under the Health and Safety at Work Act (HSWA). In addition to the fine for the construction accident, the company was fined another £9300 in costs.
The HSE has warned other companies to take heed of the warnings that this construction accident case makes.
