73-year-old caretaker in ladder fall claim

A 73-year-old school caretaker is making a ladder accident compensation claim for £50,000 after he suffered multiple injuries while removing pupils' artwork that had been stapled to a wall.

The ladder accident compensation claimant argues that he would never have suffered the broken cheekbone, fractured skull and split kidney that resulted from the fall if he had received correct instruction in how to use a ladder.

However, the caretaker's personal injury claim may encounter difficulties as he has worked with ladders for over 30 years and freely admits that he once signed a form declaring that he had received ladder safety training.

Despite this he is adamant he has a case, commenting, "When you are given something to sign by your superior you just sign it. I signed to say I had ladder training but the extent of that was not to stand on the top step and not to go above three metres.

"I didn't know there were other things."

Hampshire County Council denies liability for the ladder accident compensation claim. It issued a statement, which read, "The claimant knew perfectly well how to use a stepladder."
