KO'd caretaker's £3k personal injury compensation

A caretaker from the Midlands has been awarded £3,000 personal injury compensation after inhaling fumes from a new cleaning product.

He passed out and struck his side on a sink whilst using the noxious substance, which had been decanted from its original container and supplied to him without instructions or training for its use.

The caretaker was off sick for three months following the accident at work, and approached his trade union regarding the compensation claim. The union in turn recommended a personal injury claim company to handle his case.

The personal injury solicitor secured an out-of-court settlement for £3,000 for the man, who suffered fractured ribs and pain in the eyes, nose and mouth following his accident in the workplace.

In interviews he expressed relief at avoiding a ladder injury, saying, "I was using step ladders and I'm just glad I had got down from them before I fell, otherwise my injuries could have been much more severe."

"The safety of employees is a very high priority to us," said a spokesman for his employer, a tenant management organisation, in light of the personal injury compensation payout.
