The family of a US woman who died while driving her Toyota Corolla will be seeking car accident compensation in a product liability claim against the car manufacturer, a parts maker and a car leasing company.
The 34-year-old mother of two was killed when her leased car crashed into a traffic barrier in Houston. Police investigators reported there were no skid marks present at the scene.
After other accidents involving acceleration problems Toyota recalled 3.8 million vehicles in November citing problems with floor mats and accelerators. Then, in December it recalled a further 2.3 million cars, including 2009 Corollas so they could fix accelerators.
The deceased woman's husband recalls that his wife had told him the car's accelerator appeared to move on its own.
He is now suing for $200 million in actual and punitive damages after alleging gross negligence on the parts of the companies he has named.
Other car accident compensation claims for wrongful death have been filed in Michigan and California.
