Compensation paid for fatal London bus crash
The children of a south London man who was fatally injured when he became the victim of a bus accident have won compensation at London's High Court after making a bus accident claim.
One of the children, now 14, suffered serious multiple injuries during the 2004 accident, and had to be freed from beneath the bus by emergency services staff. He was awarded £40,000 under the terms of the bus accident claim he made for his personal injuries, while he and his two brothers also won a dependency claim worth £175,000.
Although the 14-year-old who made the bus accident claim has had to have extensive surgery to treat his injuries, he has overcome the early stages of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to become, in the judges words, "resilient, motivated and active".
The children were represented by a personal injury lawyer throughout proceedings at the High Court.
The fatally injured man's widow, who since the accident has had to give up her job as a midwife, spoke of the suffering endured by her children and said that she feels "devastated to have lost such a creative and unique husband".
