The Motor Insurers' Bureau, the body responsible for paying out car accident claims caused by uninsured drivers, has identified the areas of Britain with the most uninsured motorists on the road.
Those MIB car accident claim black-spots include parts of Manchester, West Yorkshire, Birmingham, and Essex.
Furthermore, the organisation revealed that around one in 25 of British motorists drive without insurance, meaning the UK has one of the worst records in Western Europe.
Astonishingly, the MIB also revealed that around 10% of British drivers between the age of 18 and 34 claim not to know that motor insurance cover is a legal requirement.
The MIB's chief executive commented, "We cannot stand by and let uninsured driving continue. Otherwise, the honest motorist will keep paying the bills for the injury and damage caused to people and property."
Road Safety Minister Mike Penning commented, "The Government is already taking action in a number of areas, to reduce uninsured driving, insurance fraud and the cost of claims as well as improve the safety record of young drivers.
"We have introduced a new offence of keeping an uninsured vehicle, which will help us to take targeted action against uninsured driving while freeing up police time to deal with the hard core of offenders."
It is thought that if more people were punished for driving without insurance, the car accident claim rate would be reduced.
