NHS Trust pays out negligence claim

An eight-year-old twin who suffered cerebral palsy at birth has won a birth injury compensation settlement to fund the care she will need for the rest of her life.

London's High Court heard how the girl suffered oxygen deprivation as a result of obstetric failures which led to her being born fifteen minutes later than her twin sibling.

The girl's family commenced the birth injury compensation claim only a few years following the 2002 birth, naming North West London Hospitals NHS Trust as the defendant.

Fortunately, the medical negligence claim has now been resolved. Payout constitutes a £3.29 million lump sum in addition to yearly, index-linked payments to be paid for the remainder of the girl's life.

Following settlement, the girl's mother said, "Knowing her care will now be funded for her adult life is a great weight off our shoulders."

The family's birth injury compensation solicitor added, "Her family now have the reassurance that she will receive care for the rest of her life."
