The mother of a boy with cerebral palsy is making a birth injury claim against the NHS for alleged failings by hospital staff.
Explaining why she had contacted medical negligence lawyers with a view to making a birth injury claim, the mother said, "I sought legal advice because I wanted answers surrounding the circumstances of [my son's] birth.
"I thought if it was found that there was sufficient medical evidence to support a claim for negligence then this would be the road I would pursue.
"And this is where we are now. If the claim is successful then the compensation will provide [my son] with the financial stability to ensure all his future care and support needs will be met."
The boy's cerebral palsy has had a considerable impact on his life. He is unable to walk or stand without assistance, experiences learning difficulties and has restricted vision.
A birth injury claim writ submitted by the boy's legal team alleges that the hospital is liable because of failures by the midwife to detect an abnormal heart rate and order a forceps delivery.
If successful, the compensation claim is likely to be settled for at least £300,000, although it is possible that settlement in the case could be worth several million pounds.
