Farm worker wins work injury claim

A Hereford agricultural worker has been awarded 100 percent compensation for an accident at work that resulted in the amputation of two of his fingers.

The 53-year-old received 100 percent compensation for the loss of the middle and index fingers of his left hand; injuries that were caused by a fault with farm machinery.

Investigations into the workplace accident revealed that the machinery had not received proper checks for health and safety hazards and did not have the requisite safety guard.

The successful claimant told press, "I was in agony and felt sick when I realised exactly what had happened.

"I remained in a lot of pain for a long time after the accident and was unable to return to work as I was left handed.

‘‘I couldn't even wash or dress myself and helping around the house, including cooking, which I loved, was virtually impossible.

But he added that he has now, "given two fingers to my old boss in more ways than one, but I'm just glad it's all behind me now.

"Life is certainly much better and the compensation means the future looks a lot more certain," he said.

The no win, no fee solicitor who represented the case said that his client "deserves every penny" of his 100 percent compensation settlement.
